Where to stay in Delhi is one of the most important decisions you will make when planning your trip, because it can completely shape your experience of the city.

Delhi was my first introduction to India, and I still remember how overwhelming, exciting, and completely unforgettable those first moments felt. After stepping into the city, you quickly realize that Delhi is not a place you simply visit — it is a city you experience with all your senses. The noise, the colors, the incredible food, the historic monuments, and the constant movement on the streets make it unlike anywhere else I have travelled.

One thing I quickly learned during my time in Delhi is that choosing the right place to stay can completely change your experience. Delhi is enormous, and the distance between neighborhoods can be much bigger than it looks on a map. First-time visitors usually enjoy staying around Connaught Place because it offers easy access to major attractions, restaurants, and public transport. Travelers with early flights often prefer Aerocity near the airport, while backpackers may choose Paharganj for its affordable accommodation and central location.

In this guide, I will share the best neighborhoods to stay in Delhi, the pros and cons of each neighborhood, and hotel recommendations for different budgets to help you find the right place for your trip.

Best Areas to Stay in Delhi: Quick Overview

Delhi has many different neighborhoods, and each one offers a very different experience.

Choose your area based on what matters most to you:

Now let’s look at each neighborhood in more detail.

Connaught Place: The Best Area to Stay in Delhi for First-Time Visitors

If you are visiting Delhi for the first time, Connaught Place (CP) is probably the easiest and most convenient area to stay.

Located in the heart of New Delhi, this circular market area is surrounded by restaurants, cafés, shops, and excellent metro connections. From here, you can easily reach attractions such as India Gate, Red Fort, Humayun’s Tomb, and Chandni Chowk.

The area also feels more organized than some of Delhi’s older neighborhoods, which can make your first days in India a little less overwhelming.

Pros of staying in Connaught Place:

✔ Excellent location
✔ Easy metro access
✔ Many restaurants and cafes
✔ Good choice for first-time visitors
✔ Convenient for sightseeing

Cons:

✘ More expensive than some other areas
✘ Not the most authentic local experience

Best hotels in Connaught Place

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Imperial New Delhi – Best Luxury Hotel

Best for: Luxury travelers, couples & special occasions

If I wanted to treat myself during a trip to Delhi, this is the hotel I would book without hesitation. The Imperial New Delhi is one of the city’s most iconic hotels, combining beautiful colonial architecture with lush gardens, an outdoor pool, a spa, and several excellent restaurants.

What really stands out is the atmosphere. Despite being close to Connaught Place, it feels like a peaceful escape from Delhi’s busy streets. Guests consistently rave about the outstanding service, spacious rooms, and exceptional breakfast, and many describe it as one of the highlights of their India trip.

Why I picked it:

  • ✔ One of Delhi’s most iconic luxury hotels
  • ✔ Beautiful pool, spa & restaurants
  • ✔ Outstanding guest reviews
  • ✔ Perfect for a special trip

⭐⭐⭐⭐ Radisson Blu Marina Hotel Connaught Place – Best Mid-Range Hotel

Best for: First-time visitors & sightseeing

If I were visiting Delhi for the first time, this is probably the hotel I’d book. The location is hard to beat — right in Connaught Place, with restaurants, cafés, shops, and the metro just a short walk away. It makes getting around Delhi much easier, especially if it’s your first time in the city.

If you’re looking for a comfortable stay with friendly staff, cozy rooms, and a generous breakfast, Radisson Blu Marina is a great choice. While it doesn’t have the historic charm of The Imperial, I think it’s one of the best value hotels in the area if you want comfort, convenience, and a reliable international standard without the luxury price tag.

Why I picked it:

  • ✔ Fantastic location in Connaught Place
  • ✔ Great breakfast
  • ✔ Comfortable modern rooms
  • ✔ Perfect base for exploring Delhi

⭐⭐⭐ Hotel Shandon – Best Budget Hotel

Best for: Budget travelers & solo visitors

If you’re anything like me and would rather spend your money on amazing food and experiences than an expensive hotel, Hotel Shandon is definitely worth considering. It’s just a short walk from Connaught Place, so you still get a fantastic location without paying premium prices.

What caught my attention were the consistently positive reviews about the friendly staff, clean rooms, and excellent value for money. Breakfast is another nice bonus. I think it’s a great choice for solo travelers or anyone looking for a comfortable stay on a budget.

Why I picked it:

  • ✔ Excellent value for money
  • ✔ Walking distance to Connaught Place
  • ✔ Friendly staff & clean rooms
  • ✔ Great choice for budget-conscious travelers

Aerocity: The Best Area Near Delhi Airport

If you have an early morning flight, a late-night arrival, or only need a place to stay before continuing your journey, Aerocity is one of the best areas near Delhi airport.

It is a modern hotel district with international brands, restaurants, and comfortable accommodation. Compared with many other parts of Delhi, it feels calm and well-organized.

The downside is that it is not ideal for sightseeing. You will need more time to reach central Delhi attractions.

Pros of staying in Aerocity:

✔ Very close to the airport
✔ Modern and comfortable hotels
✔ Safe and convenient
✔ Great for short stays

Cons:

✘ Far from many tourist attractions
✘ Less local atmosphere
✘ Usually more expensive

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Hyatt Delhi Residences – Best for Families & Longer Stays

Best for: Families, groups & travelers who want more space

If I were staying near the airport for a few nights, Hyatt Delhi Residences would definitely be on my shortlist. I love the idea of having a proper apartment rather than a standard hotel room, especially after a long flight or when traveling with family or friends. The residences are spacious, comfortable and have everything you need for a more relaxed stay, while you’re still close to the airport and Aerocity. The breakfast, helpful staff and peaceful atmosphere are all big pluses too. If I wanted somewhere that feels a little more like home rather than just a place to sleep, this is definitely the place I’d keep in mind.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ Pride Plaza Hotel Aerocity – Best for Comfort

Best for: Couples, families & travelers with an early flight

Pride Plaza is the kind of hotel I’d choose when I want to make an airport stay feel like an actual part of the trip rather than just an overnight stop. You have a swimming pool, spa, restaurants and plenty of space to relax, while the airport is only a short drive away.

I especially like this option if you have an extra night in Delhi and don’t want to spend it rushing around the city. You can have a nice breakfast, spend a few hours by the pool and still be perfectly positioned for your flight the next morning. If I had an early departure from Delhi, this is definitely one of the hotels I’d have in my search.

⭐⭐⭐ The Elevate Hotel – Best Budget Option

Best for: Short stays & travelers on a budget

If you’re flying in or out of Delhi and mainly need a comfortable place to spend the night, The Elevate Hotel is one I’d definitely check. It’s close to the airport and Aerocity, and the free airport pickup is a really useful bonus when you’re arriving late or leaving early. I also like that you don’t have to spend a fortune just because you’re staying near the airport. This wouldn’t be my first choice for a full Delhi vacation, but for one night before a flight, it makes a lot of sense. If I were booking a quick airport stay and wanted to keep the price reasonable, this is the hotel I would definitely go for.

Paharganj: The Best Budget Area to Stay in Delhi

Paharganj is one of Delhi’s most famous backpacker neighborhoods. Located next to New Delhi Railway Station, it has been popular with budget travelers for decades.

You will find hundreds of guesthouses, hostels, cheap hotels, restaurants, and travel agencies.

The biggest advantage of Paharganj is the price. If you are traveling on a backpacker budget, it is one of the cheapest places to stay in central Delhi.

However, this area is not for everyone. It is noisy, crowded, and can feel overwhelming, especially if it is your first time in India.

Pros of staying in Paharganj:

✔ Very affordable accommodation
✔ Close to the railway station
✔ Great for backpackers
✔ Many cheap restaurants

Cons:

✘ Noisy and chaotic
✘ Less comfortable for first-time visitors
✘ Some travelers may feel overwhelmed

⭐⭐⭐⭐ Hotel Empire Palace New Delhi – Best for a Comfortable Stay

Best for: Travelers who want comfort without a luxury price tag

If I wanted to stay around Paharganj but didn’t want to sacrifice too much comfort, Hotel Empire Palace is one I’d have on my list. I like that it gives you a more comfortable hotel experience while keeping you close to the lively streets, restaurants and New Delhi Railway Station.

The rooms are modern and spacious, and there’s also a rooftop restaurant where you can sit down and escape the chaos for a while. For me, this would be a good middle ground if I wanted to explore Delhi on a reasonable budget but still come back to somewhere comfortable at the end of the day. I’d definitely keep this one in my search if I wanted to stay in Paharganj without going for the most basic option.

⭐⭐⭐ Hotel City Pride – Best for Budget Travelers

Best for: Solo travelers & short stays

If keeping the price down is your priority, Hotel City Pride is one I’d look at. Its location in Paharganj puts you right in the middle of the action, with plenty of inexpensive restaurants, shops and street food nearby. The rooms are simple but comfortable enough for a short stay, which is really all I’d be looking for here. I wouldn’t choose Paharganj if I wanted a peaceful or luxurious Delhi experience, but if you’re using the neighborhood mainly as an affordable base for exploring the city, this hotel is a perfect choice. For a solo trip where I’d rather spend my money on food, sights and experiences, this is the kind of place I’d have saved in my search.

⭐⭐⭐ Hotel The Janak by Shanti – Best for Value

Best for: Budget travelers & couples

Hotel The Janak by Shanti is another good-value option in Paharganj. I like it for travelers who want to keep accommodation costs reasonable while still having a comfortable base close to New Delhi Railway Station.

If I were traveling on a budget and wanted somewhere I’d feel comfortable coming back to after a long day exploring Delhi, this would make my shortlist.

South Delhi: The Best Area for Comfort and a Quieter Stay

South Delhi is a great option if you prefer a calmer, more residential atmosphere. Areas such as Greater Kailash, Defence Colony and Saket are known for restaurants, cafés, shopping and more upscale accommodation.

South Delhi is also home to attractions including Qutub Minar and Lotus Temple.

This area is a good choice for families, couples, and travelers who prefer staying somewhere calmer after a busy day exploring the city.

Pros of staying in South Delhi:

✔ More peaceful atmosphere
✔ Good restaurants and cafes
✔ Generally comfortable for longer stays
✔ Close to some attractions
✔ Good quality accommodation

Cons:

✘ Not as central
✘ Longer travel times to Old Delhi attractions
✘ Accommodation can be more expensive

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Sheraton New Delhi Hotel – Best Luxury Stay in South Delhi

Best for: Travelers who want comfort, convenience & a quieter side of Delhi

If I wanted to stay in South Delhi and treat myself a little, Sheraton New Delhi Hotel would definitely be one of the first hotels I’d look at. I love that it gives you a completely different feeling from the busy streets of central Delhi — more space, more comfort, and a calm place to come back to after a long day of sightseeing.

The hotel has everything you’d expect from a luxury stay, including a swimming pool, spa, excellent restaurants and spacious rooms. Its location in Saket is also a big advantage, with Select Citywalk Mall, restaurants and the metro nearby.

If I were looking for a comfortable base in Delhi and wanted to stay somewhere I could truly relax after exploring the city, this would be high on my list.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ NUO by jüSTa – Best Boutique Mid-Range Stay

Best for: Couples, business travelers & travelers who prefer modern design

This is the kind of hotel I’d choose when I want something stylish but not overly luxurious. NUO by jüSTa has a more personal boutique feeling compared to large chain hotels, with modern interiors, comfortable rooms and a quieter atmosphere.

Located in Greater Kailash, it puts you in one of Delhi’s nicer neighborhoods, surrounded by cafés, restaurants and shopping areas. It is also a good choice if you prefer staying somewhere calmer than the busy center of Delhi while still having easy access to explore the city.

For a couple’s trip or a longer stay where I wanted comfort without paying luxury prices, this would definitely be on my shortlist.

⭐⭐⭐ Tree of Life – Best for a Unique Local Experience

Best for: Travelers who prefer boutique stays over large hotels

What I love about places like Tree of Life is that they offer something different from a typical hotel. This is not somewhere you choose for a huge pool or endless facilities — you choose it for the atmosphere, personal touch and a more peaceful experience in Delhi.

Located in a peaceful part of Saket, it feels like a small oasis away from Delhi’s busy streets. The hosts, the calm neighborhood and the warm atmosphere are what make this place special. It is also within walking distance of the metro and close to attractions like Qutub Minar.

If I were returning to Delhi and wanted somewhere more authentic and relaxed rather than a typical hotel, this is the kind of hidden gem I’d love to try.
